A London Surgeon Has Spoken About The Wonderful Feeling Of Separating Conjoined Twins In A 14 Hour Operation

A London surgeon has spoken about the "wonderful feeling" of separating conjoined twins in a 14-hour operation.

"It is an amazing team effort and when you see them afterwards, and they're doing well, it's a wonderful feeling that you've been able to do that for them."

The twins, Safa and Marwa Ullah, were born in 2019 joined at the abdomen and chest. They shared a liver and a diaphragm.

The surgery to separate the twins took place at Great Ormond Street Hospital (GOSH) in London and involved a team of more than 50 medical staff.

The twins' parents, Mohammed and Ayesha Ullah, said they were "overwhelmed with joy" after the surgery.

"We are so grateful to the amazing team at GOSH who have given our girls the chance to live separate lives," they said.

The twins are now recovering in hospital and are expected to make a full recovery.

Conjoined twins are a rare occurrence, affecting about one in every 50,000 births.

The separation of conjoined twins is a complex and risky procedure, but it can be successful in many cases.

The success of the surgery to separate Safa and Marwa Ullah is a testament to the skill and dedication of the medical team involved.

It is a story of hope and courage, and it is a reminder that even the most complex medical challenges can be overcome.
